Accepting Death

We all have said or heard the phrase 'he/she did not deserve to die'.  Like the recent masacre in Norway or any other incident similar to it have always raised a question - What was their fault? The people who were killed, all they ever did was to be at the wrong place on the wrong time. So why are they punished and taken away from their loved ones?

Even so the Wise Ones have always said - Death is not a punishment, it's inevitable and not a counterpart of life, but it is life in itself.
People die of sickness, though not all the sickness lead to death, not all the accidents lead to death either.

It's funny how people always imagine death as darkness and the angels of death always in black robes, when the people who actually have had a near death experience always explain it as 'going into the light'

So it's useless to pity the dead. People don't die of 'faults', they do because it's just the way it is. I'm not saying don't be sad when someones dies, all these are just human emotions but its important to accept death the way it really is i.e not the opposite of life but just life.

If human beings are just lump of meat, then death may be the end, but they are not. Human beings are their ideas, we all are in fact a wonderful idea, an action, a reaction...a lingering thought or a relationship, without which our existence is unknown.

Evermore

Now I feel the thorns
I know the rose is close

Now I am rising with the waves
I can see the shore

Now I am closing
to open evermore

Inspired by Mark Inglis

Heard about Mark Inglis? Mark is a mountaineer whose legs got severely frost-bitten and was amputated from below the knees in November 1982 when he got stuck in an ice cave on Aoraki/Mount Cook for 13 days due to an intense blizzard.

May 15, 2006 Mark became the first double amputee to climb Mount Everest. He and his wife Anne started a charity called 'Limbs for all' helping some 400 million disabled people around the globe. Mark is also a motivational speaker.

Mark's story is so inspiring, not only to the people who are disabled but to each and everyone, motivating us to be courageous and live our life to the fullest no matter what.

Of course you don't have to climb Mount Everest to be courageous, that was his passion. But be brave to follow your heart. Giving up when you encounter an obstacle only shows that you didn't want it enough. There should never be any fear of failing,  failure is only a state of mind.

"And one has to understand that being brave is not the absence of fear but rather the strength to keep on going forward despite the fear."

Maslow made me think..

Abraham Maslow, American professor of psychology, proposed a theory in 1943 called Maslow's hierarchy of needs for his paper A Theory of Human Motivation. Like many other theories this is based on development psychology which focuses on stages of growth in human mind.

Instead of studying mentally challenged people, Maslow studied people who excelled in their fields like Albert Einstein, Jane Addams etc. he studied the 1% of healthiest college students. He believed that "the study of crippled, stunted, immature, and unhealthy specimens can yield only a cripple psychology and a cripple philosophy."

Now I don't study psychology, i'm just a fashion student who likes to ponder on many other things so i wont go into detail but just stick to the basics.
According to Maslow there are 5 major stages of development, this picture will give you an idea-

Well, the man's got a point, don't you think? I believe all these stages are present in human mind and may trigger itself in a given situation, but there is always one priority. A man who is not stable in 'physiological' matters will always give it more priority. Like i say, it's hard to put others in front of yourself with an empty stomach, even though there are some exceptionally kind people who still do.
A man who has achieved those basic needs of food, clothing and shelter will progress in a more deeper level, seeking acceptance, self esteem and to the end self-actualization.

Later on Victor Frankl who was a neurologist and psychiatrist added 'self-transcendence' as the last stage to this theory. That is of course the true nature of spirituality, going beyond what we see to what really is, being everything and nothing.

Anyway, i definitely don't think this theory explains all the wonders of human mind, but it is something to think about. It's not a law that everyone lives by, but i cannot deny the fact that it makes sense. I found this very interesting and thought about sharing it here.

But how do you explain it when some people have got more than enough of these 'basic needs' and they are still stuck in the rat race towards materialistic things that are mere illusion? If you have a roof on your head, food in your tummy, money in your wallet and the luxury to spend it as you want, isn't it enough to live happily? I guess these are the people who need help to open their heart to self actualization.
One of many way to know yourself is when you know other people. Everyone is here to serve a purpose and when they realize what it is, they stop feeling so lost.

I like this quote by Albert Schweitzer-
"I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing i do know: the only ones among you who will really be happy are those who have sought and found how to serve."

I am You

I peek through your wandering sight
A busy day, a lonely night
like a star in a cloudy sky
I live in you

When you seek the answer
in laughter and mourn
pray to awake the unknown
look inside, I live in you

I'll make you fall and make you rise
I'll make you see the truth and lies
I'll hold your hand until you find
I am you

Are we truly progressing spiritually?

My mother raised an important question-
She said that in earlier days there were great men like Guatam Buddha who gave their all, their kingdom and family to seek enlightenment, and it truly showed, for stories have told that even their presence have made men to changed their hearts from evil to good.
But now there are preachers who lived on streets but just cause they had the power of speech they lured people and now live lavishly doing very little good to the world.
Are we truly progressing spiritually?

I have to say i was taken aback for awhile. But as i gathered myself i realized that throughout the times there have been fake preachers who lure people only to gain materialistic things in return, but they are not the ones who are remembered in long run, their fame is short.

I believe that these 'fake preachers' have a gift of speech by which they can comfort people and gain praises, which they could have actually used it for so much good, but they are humans too, and greed is in all, it's just our choice to accept the way we like to go.

It's sad that so many people are fooled by these 'fake preachers' and it is even more sad when because of few these 'preachers' who exploit others, people have lost faith in the whole concept of goodness and always live in suspicion.

So, are we really moving backwards?
I think not, i think there is good and bad in the world, it's your choice to acknowledge and support the one you want  and it is your responsibility to selflessly help fellow humans which you will realize sooner or later.

Be the change you want to see, people always say that, but it's a challenge.

Why do we always focus of negativity and not the positive changes around us...after all any kind of evolution, physical or spiritual is very gradual. Our strength is in unity.

Unexplored

Your gentle hands
touches my surface
unaware of my depth

You play with me
until you are exhausted
then swim back to shore
leaving me incomplete

Oh what a shame
I hold so much in me
but you only see a part of me
too scared to reach the deeper me

Choosing your best

I have always believed that one of the biggest gift of being human is the right to choose. We have enough intelligence to have a free will, to choose our path, to choose our freedom and to choose the way we live our life.

And by the way, its not just me Albert Einstein thinks the same way, of course we never met but i did read it somewhere(The Saint, the Surfer and the CEO by Robin Sharma)
Einstein says "How many people are trapped in their everyday habits, part numb, part frightened, part indifferent? To have a better life we must keep choosing how we are living"

What he meant was we must take responsibility of our life, we should realize that we are in charge of our life, of our actions and our words, and the reactions caused by our actions and our words.

'Choosing how we are living' also means that we must choose the best of our self,  i.e our best thoughts and our best actions, and remember this is not about being an perfectionist, it's about being human, so be gentle with yourself, after all self-realization is not like eating a pie actually is more like baking one, it takes time and lot of love to make it sweeter but all your hard work will pay off when you taste your sweet success.

What happens in your life is a reflection of what is happening inside you, so don't play blame games. Like i always says the hard times are part of our life just like the good ones, in fact if there where no hard times we would never learn, and never grow.

Help yourself by helping others

Have you ever helped a person without asking anything in return?
Giving money to a beggar, volunteering for a charity or even the little things like helping out your mom in her house work, any good selfless deed.
Do you remember how you felt after that? Go back to the time and remember that feeling.

Were you proud of yourself? Did you find some peace for a while, happiness?
That my friend is called self-respect. Other than respecting everyone else self-respect is very important. And the little selfless deeds we do only makes us respect ourself more. It's such a wonderful feeling, isn't it?

So whenever you can manage, reach out to others in need and believe me you'll find plenty. When you help them, you are helping yourself.

Because we all need inspiration

Remember, enlightenment is not somewhere else, neither in space nor in time, it is here-now. And if you hurry too much you will go astray, you will go far away. The whole thing is to slow down — to slow down so deeply that one day NOTHING moves in you. In that very moment, in that moment of no-movement, you will become enlightened. - Osho

We haven't yet got eyes that can gaze into all the splendor that God has created, but we shall get them one day, and that will be the greatest fairytale of all, for we shall be in it ourselves. -Hans Christian Anderson

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart.Who looks outside...dreams. Who looks inside...awakens. -Carl Jung
